GOD’S KIDS

Curriculum

Our program presents an individualized competency-based model of readiness instruction.  Our program has been developed to provide a simple informal teaching approach utilizing sequentially developed activities.  It will allow each child to work at his/her own developmental level so that his/her preschool experience will be successful and positively reinforcing.  As specific skills are developed and competencies are attained, new activities will be introduced.  Our activities are “child oriented.”  They are designed to stimulate perceptions by providing specific readiness skills essential for future success. Although many theories of educators, psychologists and child development leaders are incorporated within our program (Montessori, Piaget, Erickson, Bruner...) our program is first and foremost a Christian program in which we hope to reinforce the child’s spiritual development through Bible stories, songs and movies, all of which may be related to every day life.

We begin our program by introducing basic shapes and primary colors as well as visual perception, visual motor coordination, auditory discrimination, visual association and auditory association activities.  We also begin games in getting to know one another, develop friendships and confidence. In Small Group Time we work on time and space concepts (days of the week in sequence and relationship of numbers).  On Wednesdays we work primarily on our names, recognition and fine-motor skills.

Our art program will begin with painting on an unstructured background, working with glue and learning to manipulate scissors. When these skills are mastered, the children will work on more complex activities.  These activities help develop coordination skills.

Our music program will begin with basic simple rhythm activities, which will reinforce cognitive activities (colors, shapes, holidays...).  Our goals are to have the children accept music time as a group activity in which (with repetition) several songs and poems will be learned with ease. Through music we also strive to help each child achieve the following concepts:  taking turns, respect for others, increased attention span, problem solving skills, increase vocabulary, recognition of right and wrong (through Bible story songs), establishing Christian values, recognition of body parts and broadening of the child’s perceptions.
